AngularJS HTTP Errors

A failed request is not the same as a successful empty result. Keep loading, success and failure states meaningful so the rest of the application does not mistake a refusal for valid data.

How it works

The fixture endpoint returns a real 503. The controller produces a bounded public message based on the status rather than displaying any arbitrary server error text. A retry policy needs a limit and must consider whether repeating the operation is safe. A simulated receipt or POST response is not proof that a request was durably saved.

Run the code

AngularJS 1.8.3 is a legacy framework whose official support ended in January 2022. These examples teach maintenance, not a recommendation for a new application. They need a separate local browser page; Bhylu has no AngularJS playground.

In an empty folder save the HTML below as http-errors.html and the server as lab-server.mjs. Make a vendor folder and save the four pinned libraries there, retaining their MIT notices. With Node 22 or later run node lab-server.mjs http-errors.html, then open http://127.0.0.1:8136/. Stop that lab before running a different lesson. The server supplies fixed read-only HTTP fixtures; no data is saved and it does not connect to SQL. No PHP, Apache or MySQL configuration changes are needed.

Focus on the bindings and controller

This excerpt leaves out the document shell, styles and library files. Use the complete download to run it.

Expected result

Not loaded

The review reaches Desk service unavailable through both an actual local HTTP response and a controlled backend fixture. A real service should also test connectivity loss and invalid success data. Preserve an earlier valid result deliberately if refresh fails, rather than letting an error silently erase useful state.
