HTML Page Title
The title element names a document in places such as browser tabs, bookmarks, and search results. It should distinguish this page from other pages on the same site.
How it works
- Place one title inside head. It is text metadata rather than the visible main heading in body.
- Lead with the page-specific purpose, then add the site or organisation name if useful. A tab showing only “Home” is difficult to identify.
- Keep the title accurate as the page changes. Avoid stuffing unrelated keywords into it.
A practical example
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Saturday repair workshop — Market Lane Community</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Saturday repair workshop</h1>
</body>
The title helps identify the page in a tab while the h1 introduces the visible content. They can be similar without having to match word for word.
